About Me and My Approach
Nicole Armstrong
MACP, BEd, Registered Psychotherapist
Before becoming a therapist, I was a public school teacher for over a decade, focused on supporting students with diverse learning needs. I noticed repeatedly that parents, caregivers, and educators often put their own mental health and well-being on the back burner when supporting children. I completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology to help bridge this gap and better support parents looking to strengthen their own mental health. I truly believe that healthy children start with healthy adults! In addition to parents of school-aged children, I work with clients facing maternal mental health challenges, offering mothers and their partners support through fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum anxiety and depression. As a mother and stepmother, I am deeply connected to this work and appreciate the value of having a strong support system! Along the way, I have also become passionate about working with adults navigating life with ADHD and ASD, helping to identify and alleviate some of the anxiety and common day-to-day challenges.
I take a holistic and integrated approach to therapy, focused primarily on the relationship that I develop with clients. I strive to create a collaborative, inclusive, and judgment-free space where clients can speak openly. I integrate acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, solution-focused therapy, self-compassion, mindfulness, and family systems therapy, based on specific needs and goals. I work with clients to identify their strengths and develop coping strategies to help tackle current and future challenges.
Education:
Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology- Yorkville University
Bachelor of Education- University of Toronto, OISE
Bachelor of Arts (Honours)- Queen's University
College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (registration #13313).
